A fun Railpath / Wallace Bridge experience

I was out for a walk with a friend last night, up and down the Railpath.

Heading south on our way back when we were approaching the Wallace Bridge, I heard a band tuning their instruments and setting up to play on top of the bridge. My friend had also never been up on the bridge before, so we decided to head up to enjoy the view and see what this band was up to.

It was actually a four-piece combination of two bands, who were on tour from Montreal and were playing a couple of gigs in Toronto. They brought their instruments (stand up bass, french horn, and guitar) up to the Wallace Bridge to sing and record a couple of songs. They invited us to hang around and watch/listen.

I bet the recording of their songs turned out really well. It was a simple one-mic setup on the floor of the bridge, and filmed with a digital SLR camera. The band was quiet, and I'm sure the mic probably picked up some additional ambient sounds that would have just added to the mood of the recording (noise from the auto shop on Dundas, a bicycle being wheeled by, people walking through, etc.)

The combination of amazing spring evening weather, plus a great mellow band playing up on the bridge as the sun was setting over our 'hood made it the perfect way to cap off our walk.

I wish I could remember the musicians' names. I wonder if their video will show up online.

Definitely a cool experience. It's this kind of thing that really makes me like living in this neighbourhood.
