Kristen writes:

"Jeff's documentary Bending the Rails, set here in our neighbourhood, is airing on Rogers at 7 pm on Tuesday, February 14th. Hope you can tune in! [Link to more info on the Rogers TV website]"

If you go to the Rogers website, you can watch a short promo trailer for the film.

Also, in addition to the film, Rogers will feature an interview with Jeff Winch. Tune in if you can!

"Bending The Rails is a documentary by Toronto filmmaker Jeff Winch about a local issue directly affecting The Junction Triangle. The Junction is surrounded by railway lines and the film focuses on the increase of diesel train traffic scheduled to pass through the area. Citizens along the rail corridor want clean electric trains and fear the negative impact toxic diesel pollution will have on their neighbourhoods. Rogers TV presents an in depth interview with Jeff Winch and a screening of his film all in a special one hour presentation."

The Junction Triangle in Toronto is surrounded by railway lines. Very soon those rails will bring excessive toxic diesel pollution to the neighbourhood, courtesy of the Ontario Government.

Citizens all along the rail corridor want clean electric trains, but Premier Dalton McGuinty isn’t listening.

With government sorely letting it down, the scrappy Junction Triangle fights on.

But the diesel trains are coming closer and time is running out

Music Video: Fame, by Noah23

Here's another video that was partially shot locally in the Junction Triangle. Noah23's new video for Fame was filmed in various places around West Toronto, with plenty of footage of Tower Automotive (including great sequences of the recent chimney demolition), the GO/CN Georgetown tracks, Bloor St. under the Railpath, Dundas West station, Queen St. West in Parkdale, etc.

Noah23 is new to me, but checking out his Youtube channel, Myspace page, Bandcamp link, and many Google hits show that he's been making music and videos going back to the mid 1990's.

Enjoy...

Locally filmed video: Traveling Violations

Check out this short video by Adeyemi Adegbesan and Colin Stanton, filmed locally in our neighbourhood, on Dundas St., the Wallace Ave. footbridge, and on the Railpath just below the bridge. "Traveling Violations" isn't about forgetting your passport or missing your train, but more about "traveling" in the basketball sense of the word. Check it out.

You can watch the video embedded above, or go directly to the Youtube page for it.

Yasi's Place Bike-In Movie Night

On June 6th 2009, local restaurant Yasi's Place hosted their annual outdoor "bike-in" movie night. This event takes place as part of the City of Toronto's Bike Month, bringing out local residents and cyclists from all over the city to watch outdoor films at the corner of Wallace and Campbell.

Local cycling movie collector Martin Reis emceed the evening, introducing a selection of fun short films, followed by a kid-friendly feature-length movie. Yasi's Place provided free popcorn, plus other movie concession snacks (candy, ice cream, drinks, etc.) delivered right to the seats!

It was a great night out. Can't wait until next year.
