New stop signs (Paton/Campbell) are not stopping traffic

New stop signs were recently installed at the intersection of Paton Road and Campbell Avenue for east-west traffic. This is a good thing, and it has been a long time coming: this route is frequently used by speeders as a short cut. The intersection is heavily used by children and families, often walking north to Perth Public School.

The problem is, for the most part, cars are not stopping. I have made multiple observances of cars speeding through the new stop signs since their installation. Perhaps it is because the signs are inset from the road and difficult to see?

So a "heads up" to those using this intersection and assuming cars will stop for you, your car, or your kids. I've submitted a complaint, we'll see what happens. The more the better.

The Beer Store opens "Recycling Plus" at Dupont/Campbell

The Beer Store has opened a new Recycling Plus depot at 299 Campbell Ave., at the corner of Dupont St.

This is not a Beer Store, but just a place to return empties. For patrons of our local Beer Store on Symington Ave., the most noticeable change will likely be that there will no longer be huge lineups of people returning empties to the same place that we purchase the full ones from.

It's also interesting to note that this Recycling Plus depot may start accepting other types of recyclable materials in the future too: E-waste, paint, etc.

It's also worth noting that 299 Campbell Ave. has a development proposal on it, so who knows how long this depot will last, or how it might change.

Stabbing at Wallace and Campbell

At around 8:30pm tonight, an 18 year-old man was stabbed in the abdomen near Wallace and Campbell Avenues.

An 18-year-old man was stabbed multiple times after a fight broke out in the Bloor St. W. and Lansdowne Ave. area Friday night.

I invite all residents to attend a public meeting to review the proposed plans for the possible redevelopment of 299 Campbell Avenue before an Official Plan Amendment and Zoning Bylaw Amendment application are filed with the City.

The developer intends to propose the construction of a mixed-use commercial and residential building with a podium height of 6 storeys along Dupont Street and Campbell Avenue. The building would step up and back to 8 storeys and further up and back to 18 storeys in the eastern portion of the site. The proposed redevelopment would have a mix of single, one, two and three bedroom units, two levels of retail/commercial and office space along Dupont Street and Campbell Avenue, as well as Live/work units along Campbell Avenue and three levels of underground parking.

This session is an opportunity to come and see what is being proposed and to contribute your ideas to the process before an official application is submitted.

The property at 299 Campbell Ave., south-east corner of Dupont St., is proposed for redevelopment of an 18-story mixed-use commercial/residential tower.

From Ana Bailao's meeting announcement:

"The developer intends to propose the construction of a mixed-use commercial and residential building with a podium height of 6 storeys along Dupont Street and Campbell Avenue. The developer is TAS DesignBuild.
The architect is Stephen Teeple.
