Notice of railroad work - North Toronto Sub, Toronto, ON

Please take note CP has construction work scheduled to begin May 11 east of the railway crossing on Osler Street in Toronto. This important work is part of a signal system upgrade that will enhance the safe operations of rail traffic in the area.

Work will take place from 0800h to 1600h, Monday to Friday. Residents should expect to see and hear machinery such as compactors, excavators and concrete trucks equipped with back up alarms as part of this work.

Additionally, steel piles will be installed May 27-June 5, excluding the weekend, to support the new infrastructure. This will lead to some increased noise and vibration from the construction area.

Note: The photo has a marking that says "Bloor St.", but the Toronto Archives says this is Dupont St. Comparing to other photos from the area, this does indeed appear to be Dupont St., and not Bloor.

April 6, 1923. Looking north up the CN/CP tracks from Royce Ave. (now Dupont St.). On the left is the old CPR West Toronto rain station at Dundas and Dupont, and Osler Ave. is off the screen to the right.

Railway Safety Blitz

According to this CP Rail Press Release, there are railway safety campaigns and enforcement blitzes happening this week. This includes the following happening right in our neighbourhood:

April 30 - Crossing Education Blitz Osler St crossing, near Cariboo.

May 1 - Crossing Education Blitz Symington Rd north of Dupont St.

Please be careful around the railway tracks, but also keep in mind that this week they will be cracking down on trespassing and unsafe or illegal crossings. More info is in the CP Rail Press Release.
