Busy Saturday in the Junction Triangle!

I don't think I've ever seen this many events happening all on the same day in the Junction Triangle. Bikes, bees, butterflies, beauty, bartering, and boxcars*. Here's a quick rundown. Click the links to get more info about each event.

100 in 1 Day Festival:
Three events that are part of the 100 in 1 Day Festival are taking place in the Junction Triangle, along the West Toronto Railpath. All of them help celebrate the awesomeness of our neighbourhood and surrounding areas:

West Toronto Railpath Milkweed Planting Day. Railpath at Wallace Bridge, 9am-1pm. Help plant 500 new milkweed plants along the Railpath to provide habitat for monarch butterflies!
Buzz on the Bridge. Wallace Ave. Footbridge, 10am-6pm. "Community party with local artists playing music and showing their art, bridge decorating and mural painting for kids and adults and other community building activities. Swing dancing from 12-2".
Love Letters to the Junction Triangle, Past Present, and Future. Railpath at Wallace Bridge, 10am-3pm. "A collection of thoughts, feelings and photos of the traditional and newly welcomed communities in the Junction Triangle", with opportunity to submit your own thoughts etc.

Kids and Cargo Bikes, 10am-11am at Perth Square Park, followed by a family ride on the Railpath. Come and show off your own cargo bike, or see what other people have. Some vendors are also coming.

Really Really Free Market, 10am-4pm at Campbell Park. Drop off items to give away for free, or pick up your own free stuff or services. Also, free food. Free. Really. Really.

Raise public awareness for the Railpath as a Car~free, multi mobile corridor and biological diverse public park .

ABOUT THE URBAN INTERVENTION

9:00 am to 3:00 pm on Saturday June 6th 2015

All are welcome to celebrate the West Toronto Railpath Park, learn about the diverse plants that grow along the path and to plant milkweed- the main food source of the Monarch butterfly in association with the David Suzuki Foundation/Homegrown National Park Project 'Got Milkweed' Campaign.All we need are your hands to plant milkweed in a pre chosen site near the Ernest Ave. Railpath access. Explore the entire phase 1 stage of this unique linear park and learn more about the plans for the phase 2 Railpath extension.

Below is some information about Luscious Backyard. I have no affiliation with business (though I did hire her for a friend's wedding), but thought someone may be interested. It appears our neighborhood would only qualify for her request for a larger property for shrubs, but you never know. In short - you provide the space/water, she grows the flowers. I changed some things in my garden.

For Free:
1 Yuca plant
3 ground cover cedar plants
1 well established cottoneaster plant (I think)

All of the plants are healthy and will do well if you get them in some dirt. The yuca looks a little dry from the winter, but it will perk up and sprout new green. I still have one in the garden.

They are in a rubbermaid container in front of 236 perth. Please feel free to take them. Please leave/return the rubbermaid bin.

Perth-Dupont Community Garden Upgrade Meeting

Dear Residents,

The Perth Dupont Community Garden group have proposed to build a cement pad and structural addition onto the garden's tool-shed, with the possibility of adding solar panels and a water feature as well. Details about the project are found in the attached pdf titled "PDCG Shed Project Overview".

I am holding a public meeting along with Parks Staff and members of the community garden organization on Wednesday, February 6th , 6:30PM at St. Josaphat Ukrainian Cathedral (143 Franklin Ave).

The objectives of the meeting are:

Confirm if there is general public support for the project;

Identify and address possible challenges;

Garner greater community support and involvement.

Please review the attached information and join our community in planning these improvements and I hope to see you there.

Jane's Walk: Daffodils in Davenport

Started in 2007, Jane's Walk is an annual event honouring the late urban thinker, activist, and writer Jane Jacobs. On May 5 and 6 2012, free walking tours will take place in cities all over Canada, the USA, and other countries around the world.

On Saturday May 5, starting at 5:00PM, the Daffodils in Davenport walking tour, guided by Andrea Dawber and Claude Bergeron, will start at Wadsworth Park, and finish at Campbell Park.

The Perth Dupont Community Garden is located just outside the downtown core of Toronto, in the west end. We are one block west of Symington Ave, just north of Dupont St. The only entrance to the garden is on Perth Ave.

Come join the Perth Dupont Community Garden as we enjoy our fresh veggies and music.

Please feel free to bring your MUSICAL talents. There will also be a few guitars on hand if you are interested in participating, but do not have access to equipment.

Started just as a garden with individual plots nestled into the Symington Avenue Playground Park in 2005 by the City Councillor, The Perth Dupont Community Garden has been transformed into a thriving Community Garden, and is now a center for Urban Agriculture.

With ethnic and lifestyle diversity, our community garden is a place to grow food, flowers, friendships, and personal social and leadership skills.

Our garden is looking for one or two people interested in flowers and roses, to help with our Front flower Bed, and our Native Plant - Butterfly Garden.
