WWI in the Junction Triangle

Global Television has posted an interesting interactive map that plots all of the next-of-kin addresses in Toronto of soldiers who died in the first World War. There are at least several dozen people listed at addresses in the Junction Triangle dating back almost 100 years. http://www.globaltoronto.com/interactives/ww1_map.html

I just wrote a very quick short piece on some visual history of the Storage facility that just went up in flames at Osler and Pelham. The post can be found here:

Former piano shop on Dupont near Perth/Symington?

Someone emailed me with the following question:

Subject: A piano shop on north side of dupont near the Royce Dupont Chicken Farm @Perth or Symington

"I am searching for any information about a piano shop on Dupont Street, North Side around Perth or Symington around 1975. Does anybody there remember the name of the shop or the proprietor? He was German. Are there any photos? Very interesting story attached to this location.
Thank you."

Anyone have any idea about this? I'm quite curious to hear the story too. Post your replies here.

Perth Ave... formerly known as Churchill St?

I moved into the neighbourhood last week and - while signing the papers for the house purchase - discovered that Perth Ave was once known as Churchill St.

Does anyone know the history behind the street name change?

(Old) Weston Rd. Bridge

There's a good thread over on the Urban Toronto Forums about the (Old) Weston Rd. Bridge, which used to connect the two sides of Old Weston Rd. across the CP rail tracks. Although this bridge was technically just outside the Junction Triangle, it's still an interesting piece of local history. The existence (and subsequent removal) certainly shaped some of the traffic issues in this part of the city.
