Metrolinx Davenport Diamond Drop-In Sessions

Email from Metrolinx on Feb 10 2016:

The Davenport Diamond Grade Separation project is intended to eliminate the ‘Davenport Diamond’, one of the busiest train intersections in North America, where CP Rail freight trains and GO Transit passenger trains cross at a ground-level rail crossing.

Continuing the Conversation on the Davenport Diamond

In addition to the start of Transit Project Assessment Project for the Davenport Diamond Grade Separation project on January 28 and opportunities to provide comment as a part of that process, we are continuing to seek feedback on the initial overpass design concept and the elements of the bridge that are important to you and the community. To review the preliminary design direction and share your feedback, please visit metrolinx.com/RERDavenport.

Over the coming weeks and months, there will be a number of opportunities to provide feedback, answer questions and provide clarification on plans for the Davenport Diamond Grade Separation. Throughout February, we will be hosting community drop-in sessions to give you an opportunity to stop by and speak directly to us to answer any questions you may have and record your feedback as part of the formal record for the project. Options for Davenport Community EA - Official Launch Party

As you may have heard, Metrolinx has officially commenced the TPAP (Transit Project Assessment Process) for their chosen bridge option for the Davenport Diamond Grade Separation. Basically, they're moving forward with building the "super bridge" along the edge of the Junction Triangle without further study of other options.

Local group Options For Davenport has decided that since Metrolinx is not doing a full environmental assessment of all options, they will do it on their own. You can read Options For Davenport's press release here.

This Wednesday, February 10th 2016, Options For Davenport are inviting the community to a launch party for the EA process. Here are the details from the Facebook events page:

When: Wednesday February 10 at 7 PM - 10 PM
Where: Peppers Cafe, 189 Wallace Avenue, Toronto, Ontario M6H 1V5

Come out for a drink and say hello as we celebrate the launch of this exciting community-based venture.

Members of the Options team will give a short talk around 7:30 to introduce some of the key ideas around our Community EA, including our rationale for doing it, what we hope to achieve, and how you can be involved.

Feel free to invite friends from other parts of the neighbourhood, too.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Jan 28 2016 Davenport Diamond Meeting: Video

If you missed last night's public meeting about Metrolinx's Davenport Diamond bridge, or if you're excited to see it again, you can enjoy it in full HD Youtube glory. I made a video of the whole thing.

It's posted on Youtube in nine parts. Sam and Laura from Options for Davenport's section starts in Part 4. Public Q&A (or very little A, actually) starts in Part 7. You can see the whole thing by following this playlist link.

Discussions on this topic can be found in this forum, or on the OfD Facebook group.

Below are the individual embedded clips. Enjoy!

Project Update
Davenport Diamond Grade Separation

Metrolinx, an agency of the Province of Ontario, is working to transform the way the region moves. As part of plans to use GO rail corridors as the backbone of an electrified rapid transit network that connects communities and people through a reliable, frequent rail and light rail service, we are looking at ways to remove the Davenport Diamond rail-to-rail crossing to increase reliability and safety.

Project Update
As a unique piece of rail infrastructure, options to remove the crossing have been reviewed and the public meeting focused on the feasibility or technical study outlining the community impacts of the options. This meeting builds on the feasibility report and provides an opportunity to view and provide feedback on the design work that has been completed to support Metrolinx’s commitment to design excellence and community building.

Come and Learn More
In preparation for the commencement of the Transit Project Assessment Process in January 2016, this meeting will include a presentation on preliminary design work on options to remove the crossing and provide an opportunity for residents to ask questions in advance of the start of the formal 30-day public consultation period.

Date: Monday, January 18, 2016
Time: 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Location: Davenport Perth Neighbourhood Centre*, 1900 Davenport Road, Toronto, Ontario
* This location is accessible.

Davenport Diamond Project - Options For Davenport Group

I haven't been keeping up with posting about the Davenport Diamond Grade Separation project (aka "Superbridge", "Gardiner For GO Trains", etc.) here on the JT website recently.

If you're interested in following this issue closely and working with a group of local residents who are opposed to the bridge being built, please check out Options For Davenport on their website, Facebook group, and Twitter @Opt4Davenport.

Most of the discussion is on Facebook these days, but for those without accounts you can still discuss it here on the JT website.

Davenport Community Rail Overpass - "Understanding the Opportunity and Benefits"

Below is a link to a PDF released by Metrolinx explaining the Overpass...some good images to give you an idea of what it will look like (obviously take it with a grain of salt)!

Our neighbourhood will never be the same... =(

PUBLIC MEETING NOTICE
DAVENPORT COMMUNITY RAIL OVERPASS

Metrolinx, an agency of the Province of Ontario, is working to transform the way the region moves by building a fast, convenient and integrated transit network across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA). Metrolinx is moving forward with Regional Express Rail (RER), a program that will provide significant new travel choices on the GO Transit network across the region.

WHAT WE ARE PLANNING
Metrolinx is planning to build an elevated rail corridor that follows the current GO Transit route between Bloor Street West and Davenport Road. The Davenport Community Rail Overpass project is intended to eliminate the ‘Davenport Diamond’, one of the busiest train intersections in North America, where CP Rail freight trains and GO Transit passenger trains cross at a ground-level rail crossing.

WHAT WE ARE DOING
Metrolinx is in the early stages of assessing the environmental impacts of this transit project by completing an Environmental Assessment following the Transit Project Assessment Process (TPAP), as prescribed by Ontario Regulation 231/08 made under the Environmental Assessment Act. As part of the TPAP, we are beginning our engagement with our neighbours and stakeholders.

COME AND MEET YOUR NEIGHBOURS
Metrolinx randomly recruited 36 residents to participate on a Residents’ Reference Panel to work on behalf of their community to ensure that the Davenport Community Rail Overpass benefits the neighbourhood. The Panel invites you and your neighbours to be part of this process by engaging with Metrolinx and the Panel to learn more about the project, share your thoughts and to stay involved.

Please join us:

Time: 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
