West Toronto legal clinic seeks volunteers to join its board of directors‏

West Toronto Community Legal Services (WTCLS) is seeking volunteers to join its Board of Directors. We are specifically looking for individuals with experience in one or more of these areas:

o Accounting (CA, CGA, CMA)

o Human resources (in a unionized context)

o Legal clinic experience (board or staff)

o Not-for-profit board experience

Board members are expected to attend monthly meetings and should have an understanding of and commitment to the goals of legal aid clinics. Preference will be given to those who live within the clinic's catchment area (Yonge St. to Jane St., Bloor to St. Clair and further north in some areas). However, this is not a requirement.

Background: WTCLS provides free legal and housing services to the low-income residents of West Toronto. Areas of law currently practiced include social assistance, domestic violence, tenants' rights, employment standards, immigration and human rights. WTCLS also operates the Housing Help program, which provides a range of housing and mental health support services. WTCLS is also actively engaged in a range of public legal education, law reform and community development activities.

Interested candidates should send their resumes to Kent Elson at KentElson@gmail.com by Friday, May 17, 2013.
