Fourth paragraph from the bottom, last sentence:
"Tell me something, at work if your boss corrects you on your work are you on the attack??"
Your long winded attempt at trying to sound like the victim is totally shattered by that one line Virgina: "Tell me something, at work if your boss corrects you on your work are you on the attack?? "
Sounds like you saying YOU ARE THE BOSS OF EVERYONE who will or will not take your so called advice. Please re-read ALL the past postings on this web site and see how you have repeated your sage advice over and over and over again, how politely everyone responds to your advice, at first, before you begin name calling people and insulting and yes slandering other people's attempt when they do NOT agree with you. Moreover, how many times to do people have to give you information, connect the dots, with links and other sources to back up their statements only to be ignored and here over and over and over again the following:
* bragging about your godlike community achievements
* stating how long you've lived in this wonderful community
* that you and Jack are the only ones who care about immigrants and their language issues
Please re-read all your past comments and see how you present your advice and how many times people have politely respond before you start slandering their community projects.
By the way, FB did not use a cent of tax dollars to fund their project.
As for your breakfast program, if you are going to all three levels of government for funding, then technically MY TAX DOLLARS are paying for this project. Is this North Korea!? I thought I lived in a democracy where I can ask for information freely. I don't live in North Korea. I live in Toronto, Canada. I want to know how my tax dollars are put to use with your breakfast program. I expect your program to have information available in the top four languages of the area. And don't forget seeing impaired people in the neighbourhood. They too need information that is accessible to them. Try and get your information out in braille on flyers that promote your breakfast program. It's not crazy talk. Blind people are part of this community too. And don't tell me they are not in the majority, because only 10% of area residents said they have no knowledge of English too but you told FB over and over again they shouldn't overlook them. So don't forget blind people and flyers in braille. Blind people are part of the community too and may have children that need this breakfast program.
I don't live in North Korea you know. Jack has said so in the past that he doesn't live in North Korea and wants accountability -- so my neighbours and I want accountability for our tax dollars for this breakfast program too.
Vic I have been civil. I was raised to respect my elders and to listen to their advice. The young generation today, feel they know everything yet can learn from their elders. If someone tries to guide them in the right direction they get their tails between their legs and start slandering others for their oppion or advice. My advice is based on experence with the public for over 30 years that should count for something. I have been told by many that our next generation moving into the community will bring new ideas and I welcome that whole heartily. At the same time, if someone gives advice that can strengthen your cause and the community, then take that advice graciously and not as a threat to you or your group personlly.
I am tired of being slandered and hurt by our new community members for no reason but trying to give my view point based on experence and knowlege. To Scott and John, you accuse both Jack and I of being transparent and inclusive with the breakfast program. For now there is not much in the way of disclosing to anyone. There will be a public meeting as soon as all the "t's are crossed and i's are doted". To your guestion have we consulted with all 3 levels of government and other agencys....yes. We are now waiting for conformation on funding. We could use some insight to local funding and perhaps you know of someone who is willing to dotate. We except all advice and help if offered. And as for who will get breakfeast? The needy children in this community and no one else.
When FB first came together it was a meeting of a few. Scott you mentioned it yourself with respect to Jacks email to you about the name the "Wedge". You have admitted as much to coming up with the idea a year before Septembers 15 2009 meeting, so tell me Scott, would you call planning a year before the big meeting transparent and inclusive???
I strongly feel both Jack and I struck a nerve regarding the process. You had some things right and some wrong we were trying to correct them to be fare to all. We have done this before and have learned from our mistakes and we saw you doing the same thing as we have done before. You took it as a threat and started attacking us. I will admit in the beginning I was skeptical. But have come to realize that if the community at large wants a name change, then so be it. There were some things done in the beginning that weren't done correctly and that is what we were trying to do is bring you back on track. Tell me something, at work if your boss corrects you on your work are you on the attack??
I will not be slandered by anyone anymore by calling me a racist or that I have hatred towards other ethnic groups who live in our community. Scott, if you truly knew me that comment would never been put to paper.
Scott, are you the one I met one Sunday at the park on Rankin with Warren and another gentlemen, if so, then if you remember you laughed at a man who was Portuguese trying to verbalize what angered him most about the park. All three of you laughted at him because he couldn't verbalize very well in Engish what he was feeling about the park, that upsetting even more. So what do you call that? In my eyes, that was plan rude and disrespectful.
I have always no matter what you have thrown my way to be respectful and a lady. The same goes to all of you.....to be respectful, and be gentlemen!
Campbell Rink continues to Improve and this years pleasure skate had more families and girls skating than ever. The camp fire, and donuts all added to a welcoming vibe. I hope that vibe becomes year round.
Jack once again you state something that is not true. Let me correct you on a few dates. As I said, a careful rereading of the posts on the FB website shows that people were talking about the name the Wedge, which I came up with, well before the September 15 2009 meeting and were referring to it as being suggested by me. Oddly you posted around the same time so you should remember. Look it up.
I was on the road as FB started up so I backed off being involved in the organizing. My suggestion of names is on the FB site submitted exactly the same as every other resident. I did not expect it to be popular but it has proved so. I hoped that submitting names would get others doing the same and it did so. Last time I checked I am a resident and allowed to suggest names. I will let you in on a secret, I voted for Junction Triangle in round one, it was other residents that got it nominated not me.
If you had bothered to attend the September 15 2009 meeting you would have heard Jane Farrow say she liked the Wedge from the names she had read. When you attend meetings you tend to know what was actually said and done at them. Didn't see you there.
Lastly, Fuzzy Boundaries was started in my living room months before the public ever heard about it and our first meeting was with Adam Giambrone on August 7 2008 at 10:30 am. The Councilors records will show that. FB planned for a few months before going public. Look it up.
Correcting your mistakes is becoming a full time job for me, it would be appreciated if you checked your statements more diligently before going public with statements. Thank you.
Staff at Campbell are often asked why the rink closes at the end of February instead of staying open until the end of spring break. The answer has to do with the sun and the physics of ice-making.
Before I go on maybe I should remind people that the ice at Campbell is made artificially. There is a compressor that sends cooling fluid through pipes that run under the rink surface. It works much like a refrigerator. Since the ice is cooled from the bottom air temperature is not that important. You can have good ice on relatively warm days, but when the sun rises high in the sky it melts the ice even on cold days. In December when the sun doesn't rise high you can have good ice in temperatures that are above freezing but in March when the sun climbs higher the ice melts even if the temperature is below zero. If anyone is interested in the details they can read this page on the CityRinks website run by CELOS.
Campbell staff see this in February when on bright cold days the ice starts to melt along the north boards often becoming slush. I remember one weekend this February where we had good ice on an overcast Saturday and bad ice when the sun came out on Sunday. Dufferin Grove was scheduled to stay open until March 14, but it closed on Friday March 5 because the ice was so bad. Somebody at Campbell asked me about Harbourfront which stays open in March. A friend of mine was at Harbourfront today. She said much of the rink surface was closed while skaters were confined to a small area.
CELOS, the non-profit group founded by Jutta Mason that helps with the programming at Dufferin Grove, Wallace-Emerson and Campbell, has been pushing the City to open the rinks in November because the sun is low then and you can have good ice even if the air temperature is well above freezing.
Of late, I have been very obsessed with baking up quick breads. I thought I'd share this recipe from epicurious.com:
Beer, Sun-Dried Tomato, and Olive Quick Bread
3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (I changed it to 1 3/4 cup each of all purpose flour and whole wheat flour)
1 teaspoon salt (I reduced the salt content just a little bit)
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon double-acting baking powder
1 large egg, beaten lightly
a 12-ounce bottle of beer (not dark)
1/2 cup chopped drained sun-dried tomatoes packed in oil, reserving 1 tablespoon of the oil
1/3 cup chopped pimiento-stuffed olives
Preheat the oven to 350°F. and grease and flour a loaf pan, 9 by 5 by 3 inches. In a large bowl whisk together the flour, the salt, the baking soda, and the baking powder, add the egg, the beer, the tomatoes with the reserved oil, and the olives, and stir the batter until it is just combined. Turn the batter into the pan and bake the bread in the middle of the oven for 40 minutes, or until a tester comes out clean. Turn the bread out onto a rack and let it cool.
I served this bread with some veggie-barley soup and it was delicious.
If anyone out there has a cinnamon quick bread recipe, please post it up. I am now on the hunt for a tasty cinnamon quick bread recipe.
Welcome to the area Larry J. I'm sorry but your comment doesn't sound very neutral or you would have said something positive about the "Johns" or "Kevins". Instead you said they sounded rude and disrespectful but from where I sit both Jack and Virginia have equally sounded the same way.
Being neutral would have meant you see both parties in equal light but you write this "I don't like John's, or Kevins rude and disrespectful comments made to Virginia or Jack. They have a point to make and as much as you don't want to hear what they have to say, they make some sence in all of this." That statement doesn't read very neutral to me. Sorry.
Although, you have every right not to like the mural as everyone has different views on makes something look good.
Scott wrote:

Jane came to your meeting in September 2009, if you mentioned the name Wedge a year before Jane , that will make it 2008. Fuzzy Boundries only started may 2009 or so. So basically you chose the name and not the resident. So much for the process. This is why the City needs a renaming process
Time to step away from the computers and go outside to enjoy this beautiful day.
Please keep in mind the Code of Conduct when posting here, and refrain from personal attacks.
Also, please stop posting under multiple names. You know who you are, and it's pretty obvious to the readers too. Makes it look desperate and silly. :(
I have photos of you holding your posters and I have seen your posters on poles. I have never seen one in anything but English. Show me photos from the past with you holding a poster in ANY other language.
When I want to connect with non-English speakers in the area I go directly to them and their church or community groups or newspapers. I don't go to you two. That would not make any sense. The only people you speak for is yourselves. That is pretty clear. You are a community group of 2.
I would really appreciate it if you would stop using the race card (probably because you have nothing else) to desperately drum up opposition that just simply isn't there. I canvassed Perth Avenue and every single person liked the project regardless of who they were, where they were born , or any other criteria that you might try to use to divide the community. Your tactics are bordering on inciting racial hatred whereas FB is about the community coming together. I find your exploitation of race to be un-Canadian and disgraceful.
If you search the FB website you will note that I came up with the name the Wedge almost a year before Jane Farrow was ever involved in this project. I offered it in jest to get the ball rolling with names and never expected people to like it. Vic can tell you the exact day and time of my post if you wish and I believe others commented on it too, months BEFORE Jane Farrow was involved.
Once again, a great Fava conspiracy theory, but not reality.
"and another ones gone, and another ones gone, another one bites the dust..." : )
John I will continue this conversation with you when you learn to be respectful of others. And as for the translators, it's not rocket science you know. Jack and I have used our neighbours in those languages to translate for us. Try it sometimes.
Thanks to your postcard I decided to look you guys up......you know what? I wish I hadn't. People, people, people, what is wrong with you? I have moved into this community over 4 months ago from Calgary and I love it here. I have meet some wounderful people who helped my wife and I feel welcome. Thank you all!
To the argument of do process I just heard about it from the newspapers a few weeks ago and just yesterday when someone came knocking at my door. After talking to some of the neighbours, I have come to the conclusion that not everyone knows what the fuss is all about. My older neighbours who are Italian and Portugees don't read English that well and are computer illiterate, have only just been informed by what is going on. To them, who cares I know it is call "The Juntion Triangle" and nothing else.
I don't know what has transpired over time to create such betterness between two groups in the community but this bashing has got to stop.
I am sure that both side can lay clam to inproving our little Hamlet and God bless you for that. We need more individuals who can step up to the plate. I don't like John's, or Kevins rude and disrespectful comments made to Virginia or Jack. They have a point to make and as much as you don't want to hear what they have to say, they make some sence in all of this.
My wife and I took a walk the other day along Wallace and saw that mural that everyone keeps refering to. I hate to say this folks, it is a bag ass ugly thing I ever saw. It should have been outlawed by the city. SORRY! I am sure that the signs and door knocking in the area would have been enough. Defacing property even if the owner allowed it is wrong.
I am staying nutural in this but cool heads need to prevail if these two groups want the respect of the community. In my job in law enforcement, we are trained to listen objectivley to both sides of the story.
I look forward to reading all about it in the top four languages of the area. I also look forward to the two of you knocking on my door, with four translators and hand outs in the top four languages and I look forward to finding out more about your breakfast program, again all written in the top four languages.
I look forward to more meeting information about your projects, both in my mailbox and on this web site.
It's been over a year of reading your constant attacks on others and yet you have not owned up to:
- lack of language translations within your own projects
- constant harassment of other people's community projects
- spreading lies and misinformation whenever and where ever you please
- accusing others of lack of transparency and inclusiveness
It's your turn to be accountable. I have heard about this breakfast program for over a year too. You have yet to publish anything publicly about it and kept it around "a table over coffee a taking about a idea". When will information about this breakfast program become public domain?
You can at least publish which levels of government have you written to asking for support and your ideas for food sources.
Are you are planning on using volunteers to serve up food?
Why is the program only available to children?
Will it be only be run and served in a junior public school?
It's all about your project now because it's been over a year since you both have been writing about it on this web site.
John, You been asking about the Breakfast Program since it was my idea, you can ask me. I can tell this much. The project is now on hold as we are waiting for funding, we have a bank account and some money and other donation to help with the breakfast program, but unless we get more funding we can't move forward. We have not approached the general community as yet, as we have nothing new to report. Once we have all we need to operate this breakfast program and move forward we will inform everyone and yes in a few languages as well. This is not a project for renaming that we need votes or permission. We don't need anyones permission to help feed hungry children, not only in our community but our neighbours kids, but if the community wishes to donate down the road then they will have that choice. As far as asking 3 levels of govenment, The Stop and DPNC. They all know about and we doing and some have staff in our brian storming group. Now if we don't get the money we need to move forward, we will then have to cancel or fold the project and all money that we receive from private or corperate sponsors, we will then use the that on something else or donate to another project in ward 18, or any social cause. I hope I helped you to understand a little more.
Your not listening! Before the first public meeting that FB had you all sat around a table over coffee a taking about a idea that someone had and if it is doable. Stop trying to confuse the issue.Since when do you save posted dated God knows when?
You say others have narrow minds if they don't agree with FB. But from what I've been reading, it seems like the other way around -- if people don't agree with Jack and Virginia then they have no right to plan other projects outside of their stamp of approval.
If FB was so secretive about their planning process why did you know about it via your email to Kevin dated Wednesday, January 21, 2009 5:53 PM (https://www.junctiontriangle.ca/node/599#comment-1190), way before any postcard was mailed out to the general public?
I'm so done here. I have noticed that if we don't agree with FB then we are all hypocrites. I feel sorry for all of you who have narrow minds. What makes this world go ground is different view points. We must all except like it or not. This will be my last posting. Good luck!
Tell me something. In the initial stages of FB planning the name process was this discussed by a few at first around a talble and then the grater population? I know it was, don't go ranting and raving to me about transparency. You go to board rooms and a thought is duscussed until it is a reality and then it goes public. I am on those committes at work I know the process.
You keep accusing FB of transparency of voting processes and inclusiveness, therefore, I feel this conversation and answers to my questions about the breakfast program should be done in in this forum. Why the secrecy if the breakfast program is for the greater good of the community?
Practice what you preach: inclusiveness and transparency. Please answer these questions:
What agencies and/or levels of government have you approached for funding?
Are you partnered up with a more established non-profit agency, such as STOP or FoodShare?
Where would this breakfast program be located?
I don't think these questions overstep privacy laws considering the breakfast program will be publicly funded by tax dollars or private donations.
The main question here is who threw the first stone? No one would be bashing Jack and Virginia if they hadn't so aggressively attacked everyone else's projects they deemed "unworthy". If we are all truly welcomed, then their attacks on others would NOT have been so sanctimonious while dismissing everyone's else contributions.
You have every right to hate the mural because everyone is an opinion. But at the same time, let's not forget the main message of all the hurling insults, who threw the first stone with such nastiness? It wasn't the so called new residents. From what I have read on this web site, people who attempt to start new projects are always defending themselves against lies and misinformation. Perhaps respect goes both ways between established residents and the so called new residents.
I would rather us talk on a one to one for now if you don't mind. To answer your question who would get breakfeast is would be the needy children in the community. And we have aplied to government and other agencys who support such initiatives.
This isn't going anywhere productive. Let's move on.

Be FOR something.
