    In today's Globe & Mail:

    Monday, April 19, 2010 12:43 PM
The blessing and curse of running to replace Adam Giambrone
    Kelly Grant

It hasn’t exactly been a smooth start to the campaign for Kevin Beaulieu, loyal lieutenant to TTC chair Adam Giambrone and now candidate for Ward 18 Davenport.

That's right, and GO/Mx believes it should be running the service. This all goes back to a deal the Liberal Feds made in 2003 that nobody wants to talk about because so few know the details. That's the way public/private partnerships work - it enables a wall of secrecy to be erected and defended by legislation. Public Partner Pays - Private Partner Profits - it's a P6!

"GO Transit currently stops at Bloor/Dundas Station and will continue to do so in the future. The airport rail shuttle will also stop at this station.

I wanted to add that both GO and the airport shuttle will also stop at Weston Station.

I hope this clarifies any confusion that people may have on the matter.

    Regards,

    Stephen Lipkus, P.Eng. GO"

    ------
I would remind you that the airport link will NOT be run by GO but instead run by SNC Lavlin renting a line from GO (paid by us) and therefore be a for profit 407 style service not accountable to the public. Wondering why GO isnt doing the service since it has a line past the airport already? Join the club.

I got confirmation today from Metrolinx in writing that Airport link trains will stop at Bloor. I got worried last night when there was no note in the PowerPoint nor any verbal mention - and we know Metrolinx's history on going back on their word when it comes to stations and the Airport!

  • Sterling Rd Lofts (old munitions factory)   8 years 3 days ago

The neighbourhood would be a lot better off without the Sterling Lofts. For many years the lofts brought a wealth of culture and knowledge to the neighbourhood. Unfortunately this has been slowly ebbing away. Now we are left with an impromptu booze can at the weekend and a building that through total neglect is a complete eyesore.

Hey Jeff, good thing you were able to attend the meeting last night. Have you received any additional info from Metrolinx about the Bloor stop today? Given all of their talk about making Bloor a "mobility hub" and connecting the train station to the subway, no airport train stop at Bloor Station just doesn't make sense (like much of their plan).

Just back from the panel tonight at U of T. I won't go into a lot of detail but Gary McNeil made a presentation via powerpoint and one of his slides talked about an Air/Rail link stop in Weston but there was no mention of one at Bloor/Dundas West. This is not confirmed of course but it doesn't look good. I will try and get some confirmation in the coming days.

A date to keep in mind. All Candidates Debate for Tuesday, May 18, 2010 from 7:00PM-9:00PM. This is only a tentative date, waiting to hear back from candidates Jack Triolo and now Kevin Beaulieu. Already heard back from Ana, Hema, Ken and Nha, they all confirmed. I also would like to do a Mayor Candidates Debate in the hood. Have been in contact with 6 of the Mayor Candidates. Trying to coordinate a date. Will send flyer out once I hear back from Jack and kevin. JF

Chris Gallop is not only a handsome man but a hard working caring guy who certainly done a lot of legwork in JT. I hope he stays in the picture regardless of what happens. Kevin was involved in JT during Adams first term and Anna...Anna...? I think the last time I saw her in JT was 7 years ago.

  • 2010 Municipal Election   8 years 6 days ago

I'll ask him directly "why not you?"
Does he lack the experience? I'd like to know.

Only thing I know is that he is a face which im use to seeing in Community meetings. Last time I saw Gibroney, was like in 05' or 06'. Thats no good, we need better.

Its bad enuff that Tony Rup.... is invisible. We dont need the same from our City councilor. We deserve better!

Chris: Im sending you this thread bud. Think about us dude!

Torontoist just posted an interview with Kevin Beaulieu:
    http://torontoist.com/2010/04/kevin_beaulieu_to_run_for_council_in_ward_...

Apparently they will also have an interview with Ana Bailão soon too.

  • 2010 Municipal Election   8 years 6 days ago

    Hey Ranajit,

Perhaps you can convince Chris is run for our Councilor or start a petition asking him to run. :-)

Not much I can find on Kevin Beaulieu, this is from 2007 (bit of irony in there - lol):

I agree with you Ranajit, in terms of having a councilor that is "present and involved". I would like to add, I hope we elect a person that is also fair minded and not cow-towed by the loudest voices, but is willing to hear both sides of any given issue and can decide what is best for the majority in long term NOT short term. Moreover, I would hope this person is knowledgeable about the changing philosophies and research of urban living in the 21st century.

  • 2010 Municipal Election   8 years 6 days ago

I've never seen or personally met Kevin B. See what happens come this fall. Whoever it is - I just want them to be present and involved in Ward 18 issues.

The Star is reporting that Kevin Beaulieu, Adam Giambrone's executive assistant, may be gearing up to run for council in Ward 18. Adam Giambrone is apparently (though not surprisingly) taking a break from politics.

  • Metrolinx drops West Diamond appeal   8 years 1 week ago

This entire story is one of arrogance. How they thought that a massive pounding day after day would somehow be acceptable is beyond comprehension. I wish it could be chalked up to stupidity but any sane person can only came to one conclusion: arrogance. In my moind it still remains to be seen if people will be compensated for the damage to their homes and lives.

It certainly calls into question every other assertion or promise that Metrolinx has made about electrification, pollution, short and long term health effects, and its' relationship with SNC Lavlin (who will own the FOR PROFIT 407-style airport link).

The fact that Metrolinx even considered appealing should give every JT resident pause to take a second look at Metrolinx has in store for us over the next generation.

  • Metrolinx drops West Diamond appeal   8 years 1 week ago

It's a real concession to humanity and a miracle that a group of people could get together and affect some change at Metrolinx. Must be some credit to go around? I hope others will name names because clearly there are people who won't be cowed easily by spin or legal action.

    Hi there
I can take the lead on Symington - Wallace to Dupont - and west laneway. Would need to do it in the morning, though.
    Great initiative.

    Really like this one, Vic.

If there are plans for anything residential there would be mandatory testing. Its the souls of 25 million chickens we need to worry about.

  • Southwest Corner of Dupont and Symington   8 years 2 weeks ago

I saw the workers there a few weekends ago and it looked like they were taking samples of the soil for testing????

  • Southwest Corner of Dupont and Symington   8 years 2 weeks ago

I haven't heard of anything happening there either. Although I think there were a few trucks and workers on that property a couple of weeks ago. No idea what they were doing (it certainly wasn't much).

I did a quick search on the City's building permit site, and didn't find anything interesting, just a demo permit/inspection from 2007:
    http://app.toronto.ca/ApplicationStatus/details.do?folderRsn=1842612

If anything is about to change on that site, there's a good chance Giambrone's office would know.
