The City had been by this week and things were not too bad. The main issues are the hundreds of butts EVERYWHERE and a section with a lot of broken glass along the storage facility at Dupont. We still had a few people out anyway plus some cruel man that was towing a trailer of treats but wouldn't share. I think his initials are VG.

I know I think a BIA would be a great idea, but a directory to use in the near future would be great. I would be willing to put in some time to help make that happen - and we could also mention great peripheral businesses, like Bike Pirates, Value Village and Big Daddys video. Maybe as a group we could organize a lot of the information to it would be easier to migrate onto the website?

The City of Toronto has all the information about BIA groups posted on their web site at http://www.toronto.ca/bia/toronto_bia.htm. I wonder if there are enough businesses here to support a BIA? While we are no longer Fuzzy, it will take time before more brave souls like you and Yasi are attracted to the area. One of the many things that the Fuzzy project revealed is the lack of a strong business base in the neighbourhood and that's why we decided to seek the support of property developers and realtors to fund the project.

You are lucky Craig. The garbage truck came to collect our garbage before we even had a chance to get out and clean up. At least there wasn't much garbage and I am able to throw it out with our regular garbage.

Thanks to all the neighbours that turned out on Edwin this morning at 10am for the clean-up on the street and laneway. We ended up producing 13 full bags of garbage, and those big, weird, mysterious fake rocks that were down on the railpath also made their way into our garbage pile as well (mystery revealed: they were hollow, wire, molded items that must have been some kind of stage prop - now they are at the city dump!)

And with magical efficiency, the city garbage truck whizzed down Edwin, took all the garbage, and whisked off again just shortly before 12 noon. All done.

So, thanks again to everyone that came out - and take a look at Edwin now - it's spotless (at least for the time being..)

It has been a long-time plan to have a local business directory and featured businesses on this site. Need to find the time to do it though. :) Hopefully soon.

But if you know of any interesting / useful businesses that you'd like to give a heads-up to, feel free to post about them on this site.

I would like to get more information about area businesses. I just found out about the climbing gym on Campbell above Dupont. Knowing about the businesses in the area may help the community utilize them better.

Mike, I think it's a great idea. The strip/businesses along dupont can use some support and sprucing. If you need some help, Simon Wookey has lots of experience with BIA"s. I don't know if you know about his family back ground with Hazelton Lane and stuff. I bet if you called him up he would help you. Few years back I spoke to Simon about doing something for the business along bloor st from lansdowne to Symington, not much businesses, but it was a start. Nothing every happened as we moved on with other things. If you ever need his# I can give it to you. JF

Now that we are no longer "Fuzzy" has anyone given thought to organising a local B.I.A.? I know the process does come with many benefits but accessing it involves quite a bit of planning and organising. Something that some of us would welcome and participate in. Michael & Shelley

That's great, Jack. It is always better to include as many people as possible. Thanks for the update.

Tina, I thought that a funny comment too. Last time I checked children are every where, even in our homes. Better ban everything just in case.

Hey Vic, Thanks for the update. I just spoke with Frank. Funny, I was calling frank and he was just going to call me. Do you need me to resend you a revised flyer or can you just add him yourself on your end.

FYI, I have made some progress with Interpreters from different associations. Jack

not a good place because there are children in the area? you've got to be kidding. Do you have kids? If so do you or will you continue to whip their asses all their lives? Bring on the liquor store. I need my Remy Martin!

Just checked the official list again today and noticed that Frank de Jong is now registered to run in Ward 18.

  • Ward 18 All-Candidates' Debate   7 years 51 weeks ago

Yes, I looked at that table too and only 11.7% have no knowledge of English/French. English still comes out as the most spoken language at 39.1% with Portuguese coming in second at 25.3%, third is Spanish at 4.1%, fourth is Chinese (other than Cantonese, Mandarin, Taiwanese, Chaochow (Teochow), Fukien, Hakka and Shanghainese) at 3.4% and fifth is Cantonese at 3.3%. That's why I thought the "Top Ten Home Language Groups" table summed up the stats a bit more clearly in terms of English being the dominant language spoken in our area.

That's wonderful that other community groups will be organizing a candidates debate!

Here's just a suggestion. I am sure we all know a neighbour or two who can speak both english and a second language. We can ask if any of them would be willing to volunteer their time to translate at this event. That way you can get around the cost.

This is heating up again. Please take a moment to read the Code of Conduct, particularly the sections about "No personal attacks" and about posting anonymous comments.

If anyone needs to hash out personal grievances, please take it somewhere else.

    Thanks,
    Vic

I guess I was looking at the top left- TOP TEN MOTHER TONGUE GROUP and below that is "no knowledge of english or french".

Any way I received an email from Eli from the Brockton Triangle group, who wants to do an all candidate debate. I wuish her all the success. I passed along the candidate emails. Once she finds an venue and date, one more debate. I think ward18 should do as many as possible.JF

  • Ward 18 All-Candidates' Debate   7 years 51 weeks ago

All you are doing Jack is telling people about an English language debate in five languages. How exactly does that help them participate? You went on TV talking about your mother being excluded because she does not speak English. How are you going to facilitate the participation of people like her?

  • Ward 18 All-Candidates' Debate   7 years 51 weeks ago

    Hi Jack,

I looked at that very document and if you look at subheader "Top Ten Home Language Groups", second box on the left side. It states English 55.8%

  • Ward 18 All-Candidates' Debate   7 years 51 weeks ago

Hi Irmina, I guess there is two different stats. JF
