COMMUNITY MEETING

Have your say on the 2011 City of Toronto Budget
Saturday, January 15, 2011 2:00pm to 4:00pm
Wallace Emerson Community Centre
1260 Dufferin Street

Dear Friends and Neighbours,
I am writing to invite the residents of Ward 18 to a public meeting to discuss the 2011 City of Toronto Budget.
It is my intention to use this meeting as an opportunity for local residents to share their thoughts on the city budget, including what local services and programs need to be maintained and/or improved.
As promised last fall to continuously engage local residents on important matters, I am very pleased to host this meeting that will include city staff. If you're unable to attend, there are other ways to make your voice heard and I would encourage you to visit http://www.toronto.ca/city_budget or contact my office directly about other meetings happening throughout the city.
Please come with your thoughts and ideas on how we can make our community a better place to live and work.
Sincerely,
Councillor Ana Bailão

World-Record dodgeball in the Junction Triangle

According to an article in The Villager:

Dodgeball players in Toronto have banded together in an attempt to set a new Guinness World Record while raising funds for those stricken with HIV/AIDS in Africa.

The brainchild of Bloordale area resident Helder Brum, 20 dodgeball players from across the city are seeking to break the Guinness World Record for the longest game of dodgeball by playing for 36 consecutive hours. They'll attempt to break the current 24-hour record while raising $6,000 for the Stephen Lewis Foundation's A Dare to Remember campaign.

This record-breaking dodgeball game will be held at the Just 4 Fun Sporting Club, at 213 Sterling Rd. (in the former Moloney Electric building) starting on Friday January 7th at 10:00PM. Opening ceremony is at 9:00PM.

Sounds like fun, and for a good cause. Read the Villager article for more information.

Ana Bailão Comments on Transit City

This is the response that Anna is sending out regarding Transit City. Not much specifics really and the odd thng abot tracking via postal codes.

Good Evening,

Thank you for taking the time to contact me on the future of Toronto's transit plans and for your patience in awaiting a reply. Our office has received an enormous amount of correspondence on this issue and a number of technical problems were encountered in attempting to respond.

The announcement by Mayor Ford to divert attention away from the Transit City project has been a source of much discussion.

Dupont St. and Railpath Closures, December 15 and 17-19 2010

The following notice was sent out by Metrolinx to inform the community of upcoming road closures on Dupont St. between Osler and Dundas (under the tracks), and along the West Toronto Railpath above Dupont St. You can download the original PDF of this notice here.

GEORGETOWN SOUTH PROJECT

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

The Georgetown South (GTS) Project will provide infrastructure improvements to meet existing GO Transit ridership demand and future growth. It will also accommodate the new Air Rail Link service between Union Station and Pearson International Airport.

Dupont Street Bridge

Road Closures: December 15 (Overnight) and 17-19

Project Description
The Dupont Street bridge currently has five tracks. As part of the GTS Project, a new bridge span will be installed between the existing GO tracks and the West Toronto Rail Path bridge to accommodate one additional track. The work will involve modifying the existing concrete abutments, constructing a new steel pier, and installing the new steel beam span.

Junction Triangle Rail Committee Meeting

The Junction Triangle Rail Committee will be holding its monthly planning meeting this Tuesday, December 7 at 7 p.m. at Boo Radley's on Dupont.

The committee will be finalizing plans for the New Year. If you are interested in helping fight for electric trains, please join us. Membership in the committee is open to anyone. www.junctiontriangle.ca/rail

Show Santa Your Artsy Side

Just in time for the holidays, the Junction Triangle Rail Committee has been authorized to distribute a limited number of Christmas lights from the Scotiabank Nuit Blanche exhibit Rail of Light. These genuine art pieces were used by artist Richard Mongiat to create the dazzling chandeliers that were mounted on the Wallace Avenue bridge (http://railoflight.wordpress.com/how/) .

Now the spirit of that night can light your home for the holidays. For a minimum $10 donation to the Junction Triangle Rail Committee, you can own a string of lights from Richard Mongiat’s exhibit. These outdoor lights are 17 feet long, contain 50 LED lights and consume a modest two and a half watts. The lights are available in white, blue or red.

This offer won’t last forever. Quantities are limited. Maybe people in Roncesvalles and the Junction buy their outdoor holiday lights at discount stores, but in the Junction Triangle we’re above that. Be the envy of your friends in Bloordale when you tell them you are decorating your home for the holidays with art.

If you would like to take advantage of this special offer (and help a really good cause), drop us a line at rail@junctiontriangle.ca with your name and telephone number and we’ll help you show Santa your artsy side.

The Foggy Triangle

railpath2
railpath2: thick, thick fog over the Junction Triangle neighbourhood, by tanjatiziana

Last Friday, November 12 2010, was a wonderfully foggy day across the whole GTA. A great time to go out and take some photos! I was cursed with being sick, so I went straight to bed after work, but fortunately some other local photographers went out to capture some of that foggy magic in our neighbourhood. These photos were posted in the Junction Triangle Flickr group. Click the photos to get more info and view them in larger sizes.
