Music Video: Fame, by Noah23

Here's another video that was partially shot locally in the Junction Triangle. Noah23's new video for Fame was filmed in various places around West Toronto, with plenty of footage of Tower Automotive (including great sequences of the recent chimney demolition), the GO/CN Georgetown tracks, Bloor St. under the Railpath, Dundas West station, Queen St. West in Parkdale, etc.

Noah23 is new to me, but checking out his Youtube channel, Myspace page, Bandcamp link, and many Google hits show that he's been making music and videos going back to the mid 1990's.

Enjoy...

Rail of Light - Thank You

Just a word of thanks from all of us (Richard, Jeff, Kristen, Irmina and Kevin) at the Rail of Light exhibit at the Scotiabank Nuit Blanche on Saturday. It was a first for many of us and I’m sure it has been some time since the Wallace Avenue bridge attracted so many visitors.

We want to thank everyone who helped out, and they were many, and everyone who came out and supported an ambitious neighbourhood arts project. There were dozens of people who helped set-up and take down the exhibit and still others who staffed the event during the night. Rail of Light could not have happened without the support of the City of Toronto, especially the folks at Clean and Beautiful, and our very generous sponsors at Castlepoint Realty Partners and Realtors for Electric Rail.

Nuit Blanche in the Junction Triangle

Just a reminder that our own Junction Triangle Nuit Blanche exhibit takes place this weekend, from sundown Saturday, Oct. 2, on into the wee hours. Visit www.railoflight.ca for details and please help us spread the word. We hope to see you there, and thanks to many in the community who have volunteered. Many hands make light work! If you'd like to help de-sparkle the exhibit the next day, Sunday, Oct. 3, Richard Mongiat and his crew will be working from noon at the Wallace Bridge.

Upcoming Ward 18 Debate in the JT - Help Wanted

The South Perth and Sterling Road Residents Association is organizing another Ward 18 All Candidates debate, to be held on Perth Ave. This should be an excellent opportunity to hear from the candidates and help local Junction Triangle residents come closer to making a decision before the election. The organizers are looking for help, especially with coming up with a list of questions from the community, as well as finding an appropriate moderator. See the message below.

I have a favour to ask, The South Perth and Sterling Road Residents Association is hosting a final All Candidates Meeting on October the 14th at the Church of the First Born on Perth Avenue starting at 6:30, so far most all candidates have replied to a call for attendance.

I am looking for community based questions that can be presented and would like to get questions submitted to an email address set up just for this purpose, I'm not looking for questions from anonymous people and I would like the questions to be able to be asked of all candidates, so questions from people who can provide me with a name and call back # will get priority as I want to make sure that the question is clear (only I will have who the question is from and their contact info and I will call them a few days ahead to make sure that the question is clear!) I am looking for issues that residents of ward 18 are looking to get answers to (Maybe even some questions that have not yet been addressed).

I am also open to suggestions for a moderator, I have made a request of 1 potential moderator from outside of the riding but am open to other volunteers who may wish to contact me and let me know why they would want to be the moderator.

Please address questions & Moderator suggestions to :

Just 4 Fun Sporting Club - New on Sterling Rd

Earlier this month while I was wandering around taking photos of Tower Automotive, I noticed that a new sporting club is opening up in the former Moloney Electric building at the corner of Perth Ave. and Sterling Rd.

Just 4 Fun Sporting Club appears to be a big gym facility that can be rented out by the hour for basketball, volleyball, hockey, dodgeball, indoor soccer, special events, etc. I poked my head in through the open door last week a couple of times, picked up a business card, and saw that the space seems to already be in use for hockey.

I'm glad to see that this building is being re-adapted to a good use.

Check out their web site at www.just4funsportingclub.com

It's also interesting to note how Sterling Rd. is evolving into a bit of a sporting district. We now have Just 4 Fun Sporting Club, T Dot Tumblers gymnastics, CQB Tactical Paintball, one or more "circus" training places, etc.

Locally filmed video: Traveling Violations

Check out this short video by Adeyemi Adegbesan and Colin Stanton, filmed locally in our neighbourhood, on Dundas St., the Wallace Ave. footbridge, and on the Railpath just below the bridge. "Traveling Violations" isn't about forgetting your passport or missing your train, but more about "traveling" in the basketball sense of the word. Check it out.

You can watch the video embedded above, or go directly to the Youtube page for it.

Suit Stencil Day at Dupont/Campbell Mural

Local mural artist Joel Richardson is completing his second neighbourhood mural on the south side of Dupont St., east of Campbell Ave. There will be an unveiling party on Saturday. Details are from the event page on Facebook:

Time: Saturday, September 25 · 2:00pm - 4:00pm
Location: Dupont and Campbell, on the street, south side across from my other mural

More Info: Come out and be a part of the documentation, I have painted the whole mural, both sides in a suit and tie, come out and create a spectacle of suits and ties as i make my mathematical artistic statement on modern finance... All ages welcome, a shirt and tie a huge plus! Bring a camera and help to document the event.

Tower Automotive Chimney demolition (Wednesday)

Tower Automotive ChimneyTower Automotive Chimney

Philip from the South Perth and Sterling Rd. Residents Association just informed me that the Tower Automotive chimney stack at the corner of Perth Ave. and Sterling Rd. will be coming down tomorrow, Wednesday September 22. The exact time hasn't been determined yet, but it will probably be at around 10:00am.

This is your last chance to check it out. Besides the actual tower, this is the last major piece of the Tower Automotive site still standing. Not sure if I will be able to witness this myself, so I hope that many people can bring cameras to record photos and video of the chimney's final demise.

The demolition of the chimney stack tops off the other major changes we've seen along Perth Ave. and Sterling Road this summer: The demolition of the Toronto Hydro building, and the demolition of Tower Automotive's low-rise buildings and facades.

It's sad to see some of these changes, especially since many people considered these buildings to be beautiful and of industrial heritage value, but the good thing is that it now makes remediation of the contaminated soil possible. And hopefully some great re-developments too.

Planning Charrette for the Junction Triangle

Hello to all in the Junction Triangle. My name is Steve Heuchert and I am a Professional Planner teaching a York University MES "Bioregional Planning" workshop this fall. There are about 10 students enrolled. This year, based on discussions with some of the community members, we will be using the Junction Triangle as our students' study area for the practical component of the workshop. As part of this, the students will develop a master plan for the area based on a full community engagement process.
