Re: Invitation to Meet Re: Diesel Train Service Expansion in West Toronto

Dear Mr. Hudak:

Like a number of residents in the Junction Triangle in West Toronto, I am disappointed by the actions of the McGuinty government related to the hurried expansion of diesel train service to Pearson airport in time for the Pan Am Games.

Carlton Park upgrades in 2013

From Ward 18 Councillor Ana Bailao's post to the Carlton Park People's Auxiliary facebook page:

Dear Residents,

In an effort to build our local park infrastructure, I am ensuring that major upgrades will happen in the summer of 2013 in Carlton Park.

This is an invitation to participate in the design review process on Monday, December 3rd, 7:45PM at St. Sebastien Catholic School (717 Brock Ave), Classroom 116.

You may be already be aware that a public meeting was held with residents in Fall 2011 to ask for a wish list. Taking our budget for such improvements into account, I then selected several items from the resident wish-list and brought the proposals back to the community for approval in Spring 2012. Once this was received, Parks staff generated drawings and this public meeting is the next step in the process.

I was able to allocate more than $160,000 of Section 42 (park levy) funding to these upgrades, as a result of money raised from nearby development projects. I am pleased that Parks capital staff have also decided to put in additional funding. Our community will soon benefit from:

  • Removal of the baseball diamond and possible conversion to junior soccer field
  • Asphalt path, seat walls, fencing
  • New drinking fountain with dog bowl

You can look forward to seeing visual representations of these proposed changes at this upcoming meeting and I look forward to your participation in the design selection process as we move closer to implementation in the summer of 2013.

Hi everyone,

You may have noticed recently that when you post to this site, your message has to be moderated before it shows up publicly.

This is a change that I've avoided for 5 years, but the time has come. The simple reason is that too much spam / advertising has been slipping through the spam filters. This is particularly troublesome overnight or when I'm away from Internet access when I can't delete spam immediately.

Starting up Cycle Toronto Ward 18 Group

Event details from Cycle Toronto:

Starting up the Ward 18 group again!

Hello Ward 18 cyclists (and anyone interested in Ward 18 cycling)!

There's a lot going on in the ward and a lot of opportunity and need for cyclists to have a say. If you're interested in becoming involved with advocacy and outreach efforts within the ward, please come out to an introductory meeting next Wednesday.

We'll discuss bike lanes, bike parking, BIXI, and some bike events coming up throughout next year. We're also looking to name one or two people to take on the "Ward Captain" leadership position from Bruce Ward, who has moved to Ward 14.

WHAT: Introductory meeting for Ward 18 cyclists
WHEN: Wednesday, November 28 at 6:00pm
WHERE: Arte Gelato (946 Bloor St W) -- technically a block outside Ward 18, but we couldn't resist the gelato

RSVP to siva.v@cycleto.ca so that we have an idea of numbers.

Thanks! See you there.
