Ana Bailao's Metrolinx Sound Wall Community Consultation

From Ward 18 Councillor Ana Bailao's office.

It's important to note that this meeting is being organized by Ward 18 city councillor Ana Bailao and not Metrolinx. Metrolinx are holding their own meeting on this topic later in the month (February 21).

You can download a PDF copy of this announcement here.

Dear Residents,

I am holding a public meeting on the issue of the large sound walls, which Metrolinx has determined will be installed next to the West Toronto Railpath in Ward 18.

Our community should be well-informed and able to exert positive influence on Metrolinx decisions that affect us. For these reasons I ask you to join me and members of our community for a presentation and discussion on Thursday, February 7th, 6:30PM at St. Josaphat Ukrainian Cathedral (143 Franklin Ave).

Please review the attached flyer and contact my office if you have any questions or concerns.

I look forward to a strong community turnout for this meeting.

Sincerely,

Ana Bailão

Dear Residents,

The Perth Dupont Community Garden group have proposed to build a cement pad and structural addition onto the garden's tool-shed, with the possibility of adding solar panels and a water feature as well. Details about the project are found in the attached pdf titled "PDCG Shed Project Overview".

I am holding a public meeting along with Parks Staff and members of the community garden organization on Wednesday, February 6th , 6:30PM at St. Josaphat Ukrainian Cathedral (143 Franklin Ave).

The objectives of the meeting are:

  1. Confirm if there is general public support for the project;
  2. Identify and address possible challenges;
  3. Garner greater community support and involvement.

Please review the attached information and join our community in planning these improvements and I hope to see you there.

Sincerely,

Construction at Bloor GO Station

GO Train at Bloor StationGO Train at Bloor Station

Information from Metrolinx / GO Transit. You can download PDF copes of this flyer in English and French.

The Georgetown South (GTS) Project will provide infrastructure improvements to meet existing GO Transit ridership demand and future growth. It will also accommodate the new Union Pearson Express (formerly known as the Air Rail Link) service between Union Station and Pearson International Airport. This project is one of the key elements of The Big Move.

Bloor GO Station Construction Work begins January 28

What we are doing

  • We are extending the existing north platform towards Ernest Avenue.
  • This first phase of work involves utility relocation and installation of a shoring wall through the use of augured piles. We will also install construction hoarding along our property line adjacent to the West Toronto Railpath.
  • After construction is fully complete in 2014, the new Bloor GO/UP Express station will be fully accessible with the following customer amenities:
    • A new ticket sales and customer service booth;
    • A platform snowmelt system;
    • Platform canopies;
    • New bike racks;
    • Station and train information boards;
    • New pedestrian tunnels with enhanced lighting and CCTV cameras;
    • New platform access from the West Toronto Railpath.

The Beer Store opens "Recycling Plus" at Dupont/Campbell

The Beer Store has opened a new Recycling Plus depot at 299 Campbell Ave., at the corner of Dupont St.

This is not a Beer Store, but just a place to return empties. For patrons of our local Beer Store on Symington Ave., the most noticeable change will likely be that there will no longer be huge lineups of people returning empties to the same place that we purchase the full ones from.

It's also interesting to note that this Recycling Plus depot may start accepting other types of recyclable materials in the future too: E-waste, paint, etc.

Here's a City News video story about it.

It's also worth noting that 299 Campbell Ave. has a development proposal on it, so who knows how long this depot will last, or how it might change.

Closure of Old Weston / Junction Rd.

Via the latest email update from Metrolinx / GO Transit:

Closure of Old Weston/Junction Road Rail Crossing – Beginning January 26
The Old Weston/Junction Road Rail Crossing will be closed beginning January 26 until the summer. For more information, please read the construction update which was distributed to the community on January 14.

Although this is just outside of the Junction Triangle, the closure of Old Weston / Junction Rd makes navigation around the north-west side of the neighbourhood a bit more troublesome. It also seems to funnel more traffic through Osler and Dupont Streets.
