    Mark, these are only rumors.

The boy who got stabbed on the weekend does not or did not hang out at the church. There are many portuguese and spanish kids in ward 18, been two of the top 5 languages that is spoken that you might find hanging out at the church. No coincidence that you would see one of the culture mentioned represented hanging out at the church. I seen them myself(girls as well).

I spoke to the victim and the mother this morning when I went over to the house and to clarify the young man who got stabbed does not live anywhere were you said.

One thing you might find surprisingly that the perpetrators might not live in the ward or hang out at the church. JF

I have heard quite a few complaints from locals about groups of young men hanging on those steps of the former church at night. Seems to be the same faces. I have mentioned this to the property owner but have seen no action on this. If it is true that the incident did happen there then I think a call to the Councillors office is in order before it goes any further. I was hoping that the site would have boarding around it by now.

Maybe some truth to those rumours, forensics is at the church now..

It is sad that this is such a political football. There may be an opportunity on the completion to the Spadina extension to keep the tunnelling equipment operating, but that doesn't need to be the only consideration. Brining a LRT line down Kingston Road and across King or Queen, perhaps with another line up Don Mills would likely be the logical thing to do.
In one of the articles, a councillor was making the case to keep the boring machines in the North of the city. The Sheppard line was a political concession to Mel Lastman from North York. Currently the operating subsidy for this line is about $8 per ride. Twenty years from now after the current political arguments have past the operating subsidy may be brought down to $6 per ride but I expect the white elephant to be shut down eventually.
One of the graphics for the DRL was on wikipedia. (I think Vic posted all the links so I won't repeat them - but thanks Vic.) It showed fewer stops than the Yonge Line which is probably a good idea. But my guess was at least a couple of those stop proposals were intended to pander to the Mayor. A SkyDome stop is not likely useful, and Ataratiri would be aimed at developers not communities that already are under-serviced.
There is a pretty good chance that the next premier will be Hudak, in which case all transit development is likely to stop. So a city that has some of the worst traffic in the world is likely to distinguish itself further by inaction on the problem.

  • Ana Bailão: Toronto city councillor charged with impaired driving   5 years 25 weeks ago

I don't want to really comment on Ana's case specifically, as that's really up to the legal process to decide at this point (and various pundits have given so many opinions already).... but to refer to a few of your points:

Honestly, I would highly doubt this is a conspiracy. That seems pretty far-fetched. Even if someone is unknowingly served alcohol (or other drugs) you would expect that the person would notice their own impairment and take the appropriate action.

Also civil servants are not above any reproach. Don't you remember what just happened to TTC chief general manager Gary Webster earlier this year? He was even fired without cause (literally).

It would take a heck of alot of liquor candies to get drunk, especially over the course of an evening. You'd probably get seriously ill from all the sugar and other junk long before you got drunk. It might be kind of hilarious to see someone try this though.

  • Ana Bailão: Toronto city councillor charged with impaired driving   5 years 25 weeks ago

I have been to parties where the punch bowl was spiked unkowingly with alcohol

If people do not tow the political line at city hall could this not be an attempt to oust polititians?

forget that civil servants are now above any reproach by any polititian at toronto city hall!!!!

maybe this is a new method of control for city politics/ invite them to your ball

keep your friends close but your enemies closer.

How many liquour candies does it take to get drunk?

  • Stabbing at Wallace and Campbell   5 years 25 weeks ago

    The rumours say

The stairs on the church at wallace and perth are a gathering place for groups of people to sit.

The portuguese? man was stabbed there.

He was too frightened to goto the store at perth/wallace

He was too frightened to goto the store at Wallace and symington

But he lives at the house behind the store at wallace and campbell where he could not move any more ?

because of his injuries? stopped infront of the store at wallace and campbell.?

    rumour has it.

Pay some now and save billions later. Too bad nobody in this government or Metrolinx seems to care. The money wasted by the government closing a power plant could have been spent on the DRL right now.People are saying go electric, get more service at a cheaper cost and a DRL but nobody is listening. Maddening.

  • Galleria Mall   5 years 25 weeks ago

For good or bad, the market and peoples' spending habits will determine what happens here. Businesses and development follow the money.

  • Galleria Mall   5 years 25 weeks ago

First of all I have lived in this area for years. I know the people who work in the pet store. There not many people who go into that store, or the coffee bakery place. So your information is clearly one sided and wrong. Get your facts straight! So yes they should close them down, and build something better for everyone!

  • 830 Lansdowne Ave Development   5 years 25 weeks ago

    what a great letter!

the issue of this building notwithstanding, one general issue that isn't properly considered or given enough weight is that healing and happiness are impossible in destructive or threatening environments

Letters like this can go a long way toward changing attitudes. such a considerate, well worded and humane plea is rare from any segment of society, and is humbling and stereotype shattering when coming from someone on odsp-

one struggler to another, (I too am on odsp, and aslo worked in social services for some years) if you have it in you i hope you can (or do) get your letters printed with as much exposure as possible- every time someone in the mainstream reads something like this it makes it better for everyone.

  • Downtown Relief Line   5 years 25 weeks ago

Metrolinx isn't listening, but very recently, the short-lived plan put forward by councillor / TTC commish Karen Stintz and others included exactly that.

However.... Right now the main focus of the DRL is on the east end, so our section will flounder for a long time.

  • Downtown Relief Line   5 years 25 weeks ago

If Metrolinx made the APL electric they could have a west end DRL in three years with additional stops at Liberty and St. Clair and at a fraction of the cost of building a new line. We have been saying this for years but nobody listens.

  • Downtown Relief Line   5 years 26 weeks ago

A TTC report came online today, as part of the Downtown Rapid Transit Expansion Study. As expected, the report has put forth a recommendation for a "downtown relief line" subway. The immediate need is in the East end, connecting from Pape (Danforth) to King (Yonge), but ideally it would come west up to Dundas West (Bloor) station.

You can read the report online here:

  • Bailao votes against Jarvis lanes   5 years 26 weeks ago

I think people need to understand that local politics requires a lot of horse trading. I was on Sherbourne this week and construction is underway on that far more extensive separated lane and it looks promising.Keep in mind that at the end of the day we are still have a north south within a few blocks of Jarvis. I would like to keep Jarvis too but sometimes you just dont get want you want.

Sadly, in terms of Lansdowne the bike lane situation is a colossal failure that I think lands at Giambrones feet.Lansdowne should have been narrowed BUT real bike lanes should have been put in instead of the sharrow BS. Not putting them in was the biggest cycle infrastructure mistake in years and oddly people were almost silent about it. Its unlikely that lanes will be put in just to go a few blocks to Dupont.

In terms of Ana, I think it is a mistake to turn on a person because they voted once in a way you disagreed with. Nobody I have voted for has ever voted 100% the way I wanted them to. You have to look at the big picture. As a JT resident I suspect that Ana now has a "bag of chips" that will (with Sarah Doucette's help) save the Dupont bike lanes.I have talked with Ana about the lanes and I think she has come to see their value as an east west route and an asset to the community. The recent Staff report was very glowing about them and showed that traffic snarls are being caused by other factors which it looks like will be mitigated. I would also remind people that Ana is a huge supporter of Railpath stage 2 which is in planning right now. And that is not just about the path but about how it connects to streets.

  • Ana Bailão: Toronto city councillor charged with impaired driving   5 years 26 weeks ago

From now on I wish to be known as Geoff just to make things more confusing!

[Vic adds: OK everyone, let's stay on topic and end the who's who talk. Code of Conduct.]

  • Ana Bailão: Toronto city councillor charged with impaired driving   5 years 26 weeks ago

Jack - you've got the wrong Jeff.

I moved here in early 2011 and I'm entitled to dislike Ana Bailao. I was a renter before in Trinity-Spadina and didn't take an interest in municipal politics until I became a homeowner here in the Junction Triangle last year.

I stand by my previous comments, regardless of who you think I am. I may have voted in the 2010 election in a different ward, but Ana is my councillor now and I'm not particularly fond of her politics and personal behaviour lately.

  • Galleria Mall   5 years 26 weeks ago

Dollarama opened today at Galleria and FreshCo is opening on Thursday October 25th according to the sign on thier store.

  • Ana Bailão: Toronto city councillor charged with impaired driving   5 years 26 weeks ago

No I am not starting anything, but you are.

I think the real Jeff can respond in due time. J

  • Ana Bailão: Toronto city councillor charged with impaired driving   5 years 26 weeks ago

Jack, with all due respect, I believe you're starting an argument with a totally different person named Jeff. Jeff is a very, very common name. Within the thousands that live in Ward 18 and within the JT, I can safely assume there will be hundreds of men named Jeff.
