  • Ana Bailão: Toronto city councillor charged with impaired driving   5 years 26 weeks ago

I think people make a lot of assumptions about those who get nabbed for drinking and driving ie that they are alcoholics. I have never seen her falling down drunk or heard any rumours about drinking problems. It really doesn't take much alcohol to put you over the top -- very little actually. I would be interested to know how many drinks she had over what period of time. I feel bad for her. Sad, humiliating, political fallout.

I don't want to make this to be a Tick for Tack exchange. But, Yes you did live in ward18/Perth when Adam was Councillor. You, me and many others helped with Saving the Boys and Girls Club on Randolph.

Yes you were here when they had Fuzzy Boundaries,re-naming Junctin Triangle.

I remember you and your wife when I organized the Holly Joes Vigil when Adam was councillor.

Listen let's don't push Ana under the bus to quickly. People make mistakes, serious one like driving drunk. She has done a lot for this ward. If she keeps making stupid descision like driving drunk ,then I wil jump on her as well, let her have the day in court. JF

I don't recall casting stones. I asked a question and stated a couple valid points. That being said, I've never been arrested or even pulled over, so I guess I am without sin when it comes to driving and the law.

You didn't hear me complaining about Adam Giambrone because I didn't live in ward 18 when he was a councillor.

I am annoyed by her decision to flip flop regarding the Jarvis lanes. Her response to people who emailed her about her vote to remove the lanes was concluded with the following statement,

"As with all matters of safety, this is an issue that people feel a strong personal connection to. I appreciate your passionate response and will continue to advocate for improved cycling infrastructure and decisions that promote safety and accessibility."

Why would someone who's committed to safety drive drunk? I'm not going to support her but I doubt it matters. She's pretty good at staying out of the news and I imagine this issue will disappear for her until her court date.

"Let him who is without sin cast the stone"

Let's not be to hasty in judging her , she has done a lot for Ward18. I didn't hear you judge Adam when he was using his office for other then politics and and committing adultery. I din't him support Adam because with him it was one thing after another.

We should be supporting her instead. I know you are upset about the bike lanes. I think it's better to let it ride. J

I believe an article mentioned she was coming from Ford's ball for the Arts...alcohol and Ford never mix???

  • Ana Bailão: Toronto city councillor charged with impaired driving   5 years 26 weeks ago

She released a statement to the media.

I can confirm that on October 16, I was charged with impaired driving.

This situation is regrettable. I have been advised by my legal counsel that because this matter is before the courts that I have no further comment.

I wonder what this means for her political career. On one hand, we have a mayor who's done similar and much, much worse. On the other hand, how can anyone trust her?

The Liberty Village Metro & The College Metro are 2.5km apart.
Whereas the College Metro to the future Dupont & Lansdowne Metro is 3.5km. If they don't have a problem with the Liberty Village & College Metro's being that close together, I cant see how they'd have a problem with one at Dupont & Lansdowne...

Granted I haven't been inside and haven't see what will eventually be of this location but I was really disappointed with the signage. Considering the type of restoration the owners did with Cocoa Latte on St.Clair and Clay along side it, this looks like an afterthought from them and again, creates the image that the area doesn't deserve a proper space. Again, I could be wrong but on first impressions when you see the signs, it's not indicative of the creative people living and working in the area. And I know you don't base anything on outside appearances in any facet of life but to see the work in Cocoa Latte and then to see this, it's a step down.

Thanks Kori...that's a great idea. How can we get it started so there is a communal voice rather than scattered voices contacting the powers that be!

    What a nice idea.

  • Redevelopment of the Wallace-Perth Church property (Union Lofts)   5 years 27 weeks ago

The sign is up. Calling the project Union Lofts. Website: www.unionlofts.ca
Also heard some construction noises from inside and a dumpster out front. Excited to see this project start.

I happen to be fortunate enough to work for a studio just a few doors down from Cocoa Latte and I couldn't be happier to have them opening a location in our hood. Cocoa Latte was ahead of its time and led a great surge of new development on St Clair, here's hoping they do the same here

That's exactly what I hoped as well, that the southern (now demolished) Foundry building could have housed a year-round farmers market & local specially retailers etc.

Mind you, if we organized and get involved we can still push for it, the building was demolished because the soil was badly contaminated and the developer still hasn't applied for permit to redevelop those lands, if we get involved and voice opinion to local councillor and planners (ward 14, not ward 18), we could request developer build a near replica of what was taken down using the north Foundry (and other historic pictures) as reference, it could happen, and a local landmark remade that is accessible to the local community for commercial uses, affordable day cares, Wyncwood type locavore with farmers market etc etc

I'm ready to make this point, and based on the magnitude of development happening there, the future residents would also want such amenities at their easy disposal

Again maybe wishful thinking on my part but I would have hoped that a few of the heritage buildings a little north of the JT in Davenport Village would have been converted to at least a section for a farmer's market...who know what the developer has planned there...there is a farmer's market with the STOP community gardens on Thursdays I believe...

  • Cafe con Leche - Espresso Bar   5 years 27 weeks ago

Our area could really use a fruit and vegetable store like the one one Bloor and Dorval or a farmers market. There will be a new Metro but I find them to be expensive and stuff is fresher and cheaper at small stores.

  • Cafe con Leche - Espresso Bar   5 years 27 weeks ago

yes, my sentiments exactly! again, that's why i said wishful thinking that things would change...we still love boo's! but must admit a healthier dose of options along dupont will benefit everyone! including businesses we all already frequent

  • Cafe con Leche - Espresso Bar   5 years 27 weeks ago

make over could be a stretch, however it will look better for sure.

  • Bailao votes against Jarvis lanes   5 years 27 weeks ago

I am also very concerned about this councillor. I cannot get a straight answer from her office about the fate of the Lansdowne Ave. north of Bloor bike lanes that were approved and supposed to go in way back in 2005.

    Really not impressed....

  • Metrolinx Georgetown South Electrification Update   5 years 28 weeks ago

An interesting read. How different things might be if our elected representatives still had a say on Metrolinx's board. We might have a better system and financial security. Its possible that transportation might stall again. Lets hope not.

I also believe that the NDP too could form a minority government as in my own opinion I am not sure people are comfortable in hard times with Tim Hudak being premier.

It is sad to think that Metrolinx's own actions, as lead by Dalton McGuinty, could in the end the stall overall electrification never mind any improvement in the system. Metrolinx should have spent less time fighting the taxpayers who pay for it and more time securing its own future and selling a system so good it would be meddling proof.
